Navy ERP Pilot Programs
The Commercial Business Practices (CBP) originally recommended
six Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) pilot programs be conducted to
explore the possibility of implementing ERP solutions across the Navy.
The six ERP pilots were:
NAVAIR/NAVSUP |
SMART |
Aviation Supply Chain Management/Maintenance Management |
NAVAIR |
SIGMA |
Program Management |
NAVSEA/Fleet |
NEMAIS |
Regional Maintenance |
SPAWAR |
CABRILLO |
Navy Working Capital Fund Management |
HQ, USMC |
|
USMC Logistics |
CINCPACFLT |
|
Shore Station Management |
Today, the first four of these six original pilots are active. USMC
Logistics is being addressed by the Global Combat Support System –
Marine Corps (GCSS-MC) program, and Shore Station Management has not
been pursued further.
In December 1998, based on the CBP recommendation, the Under Secretary
of the Navy appointed the Executive Steering Group (ESG), headed by
VADM Lockard, to monitor the pilot activities.
For the ERP pilots to move forward, the final recommendations of the
Working Group were to:
- Proceed with a Business Case Analysis (BCA) for each
of the candidate pilot programs
- Let individual sponsors fund pilot programs from existing
resources
- Continue ongoing initiatives and identify connectivity
to the candidate pilot programs
