SECNAV The Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) is responsible for, and has the authority under Title 10 United States Code, to conduct all the affairs of the Department of the Navy, including: recruiting, organizing, supplying, equipping, training, mobilizing, and demobilizing.
Chief of Naval Operations The Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) is responsible to the Secretary of the Navy for the command, utilization of resources and operating efficiency of the operating forces of the Navy and of the Navy shore activities. A member of the JCS, the CNO is the principal naval adviser to the President and to the Secretary on the conduct of war.
Commandant of the Marine Corps The Commandant of the Marine Corps (CMC) is responsible to the Secretary of the Navy for the command, utilization of resources and operating efficiency of the Marine Corps. A member of the JCS, the Commandant of the Marine Corps shall advise the Secretary of the Navy regarding the employment of Marine Corps forces.
Undersecretary The Undersecretary of the Navy is the deputy and principal assistant to the Secretary of the Navy. The Undersecretary oversees internal audit activities, internal inspection activities, administrative matters, and special program matters.
Vice Chief The Vice Chief of Naval Operations (VCNO) is the deputy and principal assistant the CNO.
Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy The Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON) serves as the senior enlisted leader of the Navy, and as an advisor to the Chief of Naval Operations and to the Chief of Naval Personnel in matters dealing with enlisted personnel and their families.
