An acronym is a pronounceable word formed from each of the first letters of a descriptive phrase. This list contains abbreviations, acronyms, and initialisms and we make no distinction between them.

**Acknowledgement: The idea for this list came from by Marshall R. Potter of the Federal Aviation Administration while he was with the DDR&E; (IT). He compliled the original list of 1,500 acronyms in 1999.
In March 2000 Lon R. Dean of the DACS began to administer this listing.
Mr. Dean continues to update this resource regularly.
