The Naval History Database has been a
multi-year project with focus on providing a highly configurable resource
that can be used to conduct historical research.
It is also very useful in providing a glimpse at the current force and estimating future force levels, or analyzing shipbuilding trends. Photos in this database are largely provided by the Naval Historical Center, Washington D.C. as are the bulk of the historic notes which are based on NHC Ships History Branch's DANFS publication. Photos can be ordered here.Visit the US Navy website if you are interested in embarking on a career in the world's greatest Navy.Note: The data contained in this database is most accurate for the period 17 July 1920 to present. In 1920 the US Navy went to the modern alphanumeric numbering system and the ships contained within this database are keyed on these numbers. The database was created by Michael Cardin (IRD) and donated to the Naval War College in September 2000. Comments can be electronically mailed to: cardinm@nwc.navy.mil |
