Description of Assignment:

Serves as nurse consultant and provides professional expertise in nursing informatics education and practice and the
improved use of health information technology. Serves as an expert resource to assist in the development of initiatives
based on recommendations from the National Advisory Council on Nurse Education and Practice Report to the Secretary on A National Informatics Agenda for Nursing Education and Practice. Coordinates other relevant reports on the use of health information technology to enhance health care, collaborates with other Federal agency offices committed to enhancing health informatics knowledge and application and strengthens networks to improve information access by nurses and other health professionals. Represents the Division and Bureau at national conferences and meetings and participates with other Federal agencies, national organizations and professional groups. Maintains liaison with professional groups such as the American Medical Informatics Association - Nursing Informatics Workgroup, and the League for Nursing in regards to nursing informatics education and practice issues and health information technology. For example, may work with these
organizations to pln and implement conferences and workshops whose outcomes will be published proceedings and reports
with recommendations for Division programs nationally and thee development of state-of-the-art papers that will provide
ongoing national guidance in regard to the needs in nursing informatics and utilization of health information technology.
Drafts and develops standards, policies and guidance in nursing informatics education and practice for use by the States,
public and voluntary organizations, the American Nurses Association, informatics consortium and networks and schools of
nursing.

Qualifications Required: U.S. CITIZENSHIP IS REQUIRED.
Education: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting
agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
Registration: Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the
Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. An applicant who has graduated from an approved nursing educational program within the past 12 months may be appointed pending State registration as a professional nurse within 6 months of appointment. No person appointed pending registration may be retained beyond 6 months, or promoted, if registration has not been attained.

You must have one (1) year of specialized experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and
abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be
filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal
Government.

Specialized experience is experience that provided a mastery of nursing to apply experimental therapies and new
developments to the solution of complex health care problems not susceptible to treatment by accepted methods.

VETERAN'S PREFERENCE

5 United States Code.

5. When the employee no longer meets the eligibility requirements (e.g., the employee is no longer being
separated by RIF, or under adverse action procedures for declining a transfer of function or directed
reassignment outside the local commuting area, or separates by resignation or non-discontinued service
retirement prior to the effective date of the RIF; or

6. With the HRSA, upon declination of an offer to the employee by the HRSA or upon the failure of the
applicant to respond within a reasonable period of time to an offer or official inquiry of availability.
