welcome to healthfinder®

healthfinder® is a free guide to reliable health information, developed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.  The site provides an easy-to-use, searchable index of carefully reviewed health information from over 1,500 government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and universities.  You won't find any ' mystery' Web sites here!

On the home page

  • The healthfinder® site has 8 main sections, which you can see from the home page

  • Also on the home page, you'll see—

    • At the very top, the healthfinder® logo.  This logo will appear on every page of the site.

    • Also at the top of every page, you'll see a text box labeled search:  .  Just enter what you want to search for there and select the little apple to start your search.

    • On the right, you'll see health news, followed by headlines for the latest stories and a more news... link that will take you to the news archive for more stories.

    • Just below the news is today's online checkup, like Your Cancer Risk. This link changes every time you view the home page—to find one you've seen before or see more interactive health assessment tools, follow the more checkups.... link.

    • In the lower right is the National Health Observances Calendar, which lists important health-related national events like National Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness Week and provides information about the sponsoring organizations.

    • Next to the NHO is a small banner graphic that changes each time you visit the home page.  This banner links to a randomly selected organization's Web site from the healthfinder® database.

    • At the very bottom of the home page are links to policies of the healthfinder® site and its sponsoring organizations, as well as two other Federal portal Web sites, health.gov and FirstGov.

On other pages in the site

  • At the top of each page in healthfinder® other than the home page, you'll see a text search box and links to 6 of the main sections of the site at the top so you can easily search or access any part of the site.

  • At the bottom of each page (other than the home page), you'll see links to KIDS and espanol, as well as the site's privacy policy, disclaimer, and Freedom of Information Act information.

  • The healthfinder® logo in the upper left of each page will take you back .

Finding your way through the site

  • As you move through the site, the title line on each page will show you where you are and where you've come from--for example, on this page the title line is—

home > help > navigation help

You can select help to return to the main help page or home to go .

When you are searching, you might see a title line like this—

home > health libraryprevention & wellnessB > Back Injury

You can select any linked part of the title line to go back to a previous page quickly.

  • A to Z topic lists are a key part of healthfinder®'s navigation, too.  As you browse the main sections of the site, you will see lists like this—

    a
      b  c  d  e  f  g  h  i  j  k  l  m  n  o  p  q  r  s  t  u  v  w  z

    • Choose a letter from the list above to see topics that start with that letter.

    • Then choose a topic to search for information. You may need to scroll to see all the topics.
