Entomology Department

 

Mission

The Entomology Department supports operational forces and shore installations throughout the AOR. We provide disease-vector and pest control services for contingencies, as directed by a higher authority. We also conduct pest management program reviews at shore installations and provide pest control training to shipboard Medical Department personnel, pesticide applicator recertification training to Preventive Medicine personnel and civilians and Operational Entomology training to preventive medicine personnel.

Vision

Our vision is to protect operating forces from vector-borne disease via direct vector-control support and by implementation of the DoD arthropod repellent program, as established by the Armed Forces Pest Management Board. Further, we are committed to ensuring that pest control, afloat and ashore is conducted safely and effectively.

 

Services

     Entomology Courses:

     1. Shipboard Pest Management CIN: B-322-1075  

          20.0 Continuing Education Credit for IDCs who successfully complete both the classroom and field training portions of the course will be issued a Shipboard Pest Control Certificate (NAVMED6250/1), which would qualify them to conduct shipboard pest control operation.

 

      2. DOD Pest Management Recertification CIN: B-322-1074

This is a four-day course designed to re-certify DoD civilian pesticide applicators and Preventive Medicine Technicians (PMTs) from the Navy, Army and Air Force as DoD Pesticide Applicators. PMTs must be re-certified every three years. The curriculum includes refresher information and updates on current federation; vector identification, surveys and control and hands on pesticide dispersal equipment training. This course is available once a year at NEPMU-6.

 

     3. Operational Entomology Training CIN: B-322-1077
