- 1996 Vice-Presidential Hammer Award - The Hammer Award is a special recognition award given by Vice President Al Gore to teams who have made significant contributions in support of the Presidents National Partnership for Reinventing Government (NPR) principles. Those principles are: Putting Customers First, Cutting Red Tape, Empowering Employees and Getting Back to Basics. The award consists of a $6.00 hammer, a small ribbon and a card from the Vice President, all encased in an aluminum frame.
