A natural outgrowth of Gen.
John J. Pershing's vision of a top-flight musical organization
for the U.S. Army was the development of the U.S. Army Chorus.
Soldiers have always sung, and this tradition is vigorously
maintained with this select group of musicians.
Officially established as a separate unit
with the direct assistance of then Secretary of the Army Wilbur
M. Brucker in January 1956, the U.S. Army Chorus has earned
an enviable reputation in the worlds of popular, classical,
patriotic and religious music.
It has performed in every major city in
the United States, at many colleges and universities, at special
patriotic and national observances and before television audiences.
The all-male chorus members must meet educational
requirements and pass an audition once a vacancy for the chorus
opens. Soldiers assigned to the chorus may remain in the organization
for their military careers if they choose.
Performances by the chorus
can be seen during the U.S. Army Band's summer concert performances
in Washington, D.C., as well as other special concerts throughout
the year in the nation's capital.
