.......... William R. Molzahn is the Deputy General Counsel for the Department of the Navy (DON). In this position, as the DON senior career lawyer, he is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all areas of the Office of the General Counsel legal practice and handling major cases as necessary.

..........Mr. Molzahn began his career with the Department of the Navy in 1974 when he joined the Office of the General Counsel and was assigned to the Office of Counsel for Strategic Systems Programs. In 1979, he transferred to the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Office of Counsel where he served as a member, and then head, of the group of attorneys responsible for providing advice on the acquisition of ship systems and combat systems. Mr. Molzahn was selected in 1984 to manage the NAVSEA legal field office system. He then became Deputy Counsel, Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) in 1985, and Deputy Counsel, NAVSEA in 1986.

..........Mr. Molzahn was selected as SPAWAR Counsel in 1992 where he headed an office of twenty-eight attorneys advising the Command and its nine field activities in the development, acquisition and life cycle management of command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems.

..........In May 1994, Mr. Molzahn assumed the position of NAVSEA Counsel, leading over 120 attorneys located at headquarters and twenty-eight field offices, providing the full range of legal advice and services to a command responsible for the research, development, acquisition, and fleet support of ships and ship systems. Mr. Molzahn was selected as Deputy General Counsel for the Department of the Navy in June 2000.

..........Mr. Molzahn received a B.A. degree from California State University at Fullerton in 1970 and a law degree from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law in 1974. He received the Navy Superior Civilian Service Award in 1988, the Presidential Rank of Meritorious Executive Award in 1997, the Navy Distinguished Civilian Service Award in 2000, and the Presidential Rank of Distinguished Executive Award in 2002.
