The Office of the Naval Inspector General is located at the
Washington Navy Yard and is comprised of the following offices and
divisions:
Investigations
The Investigations Division is broken down into the
Hotlines Division and the Special Inquiries Division.

Inspections
Division
The Inspections Division conducts area visits, command
inspections, and reviews the command climate.
Audit
The Audit Division located in the Washington DC Office
of the Naval Inspector General
provides audit follow-up,
liaison, and oversight of the actions taken by Department of the Navy
managers to correct deficiencies identified in audit reports. The
Audit Division is also responsible for resolving disputed Naval Audit
Service reports and prepares semi-annual reports for Congress.

Intelligence
Oversight/Security
The
Naval Inspector General Intelligence Oversight Division is
responsible for administering the Navy's Intelligence Oversight program.
They are the primary point of contact for all Intelligence Oversight
matters, to include submission of quarterly reports, inspections and
investigations, and clarification of regulations.

Installations
and Environment
The Installations and Environment Division of
the Naval Inspector General is comprised of two departments - the Naval
Installation and Environment Team
(NIET) and the Naval Inspector General Oversight Inspection Unit (NOIU).
These departments support the Naval Inspector General in matters related
to the environment, health and safety.
Legal
The Legal Office advises the Naval Inspector General
regarding legal matters. The
Legal Office is also responsible
for releasing information
requested under the Freedom of Information Act.

and Dental
The Special Assistant for Medical Matters and the Deputy
Director for Medical Inspections serve as advisors to the Naval Inspector
General on health care issues relating to Sailors, Marines, their families,
DON civilians, and retirees. more
