The main focus of area visits is:

Quality of Life Programs.  Naval Exchange,  commissary, Morale Welfare and Recreation (MWR) program, Single Sailor Program, uniforms, child care, religious support, regionalization of services, retiree support, fitness programs, Bachelor Quarters, base transportation (availability), accessibility/availability of local/base facilities, Geographic Bachelors, legal support, and Sponsor Program.

Health Services.  Medical and dental care, medical fitness boards, training physicals and exams, Family Advocacy Programs (FAP), Fleet & Family Support Centers (FFSC), TRICARE, implementation including TRICARE Service Center, regionalization, and the Ombudsman Program.

Fleet Support/Readiness.  Planning, resourcing, mission, tasking, regionalization, management controls, process improvement activities, fleet support, personnel management plan (including outsourcing), manning, training/ qualification/ indoctrination, and command relationships.

The Inspector General conducts area visits, which are those conducted in a specific geographic area, including any of the Navy's shore and sea commands within that area.  We don't use checklists, but we do check for compliance with local and higher headquarters directives.
