What is Command Climate?

Command Climate is the sum of various programs, processes and conditions.  Some areas which affect Command Climate are coworker relationships, awards/recognition, meaningful work, working conditions, training and education opportunities, the grievance system, office equipment and furnishings, command environment, overall communication, and the central cohesive element of leadership.

How do we assess Command Climate?

To understand the Command Climate better we inquire into many personnel areas/contexts such as:

  • Does the leadership know what affects the crew morale?

  • How well does the command take care of its personnel (military and civilian)?

  • Do command personnel understand the command mission and their role in assisting the command to accomplish its mission?

  • How well do personnel of different racial, ethnic, religious, and gender groups get along?

  • Does command leadership utilize tools of the Command Managed Equal Opportunity (CMEO) program?

  • How do command members feel about the Quality of Life?

  • Is the chain of command effective?

What is an Assist Visit?

An assist visit is a proactive approach to assessing Command Climate.  If the command requests outside support for resources to assist them in assessing their command, we conduct an Assist Visit.  If higher authority directs NAVINSGEN to conduct a Command Climate assessment, it is considered an inspection.

Most importantly.... we OBSERVE OBSERVE OBSERVE!!
