  • SECNAVINST 5430.57F, Mission and Functions of the Naval Inspector General, states that the Inspector General of the Navy shall... Coordinate the inspection program aspects of the DON Environmental Protection and Occupational Safety and Health Programs, conduct oversight inspections of DON activities ashore for compliance with these programs, and make reports as required.

  • OPNAVINST 5090.1B, Environmental and Natural Resource Program Manual, prescribes a three-tiered Environmental Compliance Evaluation Program consisting of annual activity self audits, triennial major claimant evaluations, and compliance evaluations performed by the Naval Inspector General.

  • OPNAVINST 5100.23 (series), Navy Occupational Safety and Health Program Manual, details a Navy Occupational Safety and Health (NAVOSH) Inspection Program consisting of work place inspections, Echelon 1 and 2 Occupational Safety and Health Management Evaluations and Inspector General Oversight Inspections.  The instruction states that the Naval Inspector General shall conduct NAVOSH inspections using either the traditional Regulatory Compliance Inspection or the Process Review and Measurement System (PR&MS).  Information about the PR&MS inspection model is available on the Chief of Naval Operations (N454) Home Page.
