San Diego Area Chiefs, Selectees Come Together for CPO Pride Day

SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- More than 650 area chiefs gathered Sept. 8 for the area's first Chief Petty Officers (CPO) Pride Day.

Kicking off near the Commander, Navy Region Southwest headquarters building, the event was an opportunity for chiefs to welcome this year’s new chiefs into the khaki community, and to show them the camaraderie, support and teamwork their new community has to offer.

U.S. Pacific Fleet Naval Surface Force Master Chief Karen O’Connor said she looks forward to the event's growth.

"Chicago has been doing a pride day for a couple of years now," said O’Connor, who hopes to have an annual event in San Diego during the week leading up to the "pinning day" ceremony.

"We thought that it would be a great idea to have a pride day here, and this year we were able to put together a great day. This has been a wonderful turnout for our first year. The support from the fleet has been terrific."
