NSGA Misawa, Japan
Welcome

U.S. Naval Security Group Activity, Misawa is a command of 300 sailors which continues a long-standing reputation for excellence handed down by our predecessors since 1971. We are a tennant command on Misawa Air Base, located approximately 400 miles north of Tokyo, adjacent to Misawa City in the Aomori Prefecture.

Map of Japan

Misawa offers a tremendous opportunity for a challenging and rewarding military assignment coupled with a unique opportunity to learn about another culture. While the work is demanding, there is plenty of time for exploring the island nation and enjoying the Japanese culture.
Misawa is often referred to as the “West Virginia of Japan” and if you have ever had the privilege of seeing the beautiful mountains and lush forest of West Virginia you would understand why. Life here is far from the hustle and bustle associated with places such as Tokyo and New York City. Misawa is a camper's paradise and an outdoorsman’s dream, but it is also much more than that. Here in our part of the “Land of the Rising Sun” we have fostered a close relationship with our Japanese hosts.

For those who enjoy creature comforts, it should be noted that some of the best hot baths (or Onsen as the locals call them) in the world are in and around Misawa. There are onsens for men, women and mixed gender, as well as mud baths for those so inclined. With an average snowfall between 120 and 150 inches a year, many avid skiers look forward to a relaxing onsen after a long day on the slopes.
