SURVIVOR BENEFIT PLAN (SBP)
The Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) was established by Congress effective 21 Sep 72 (Public Law (PL) 92-425) to provide a monthly income to survivors of retired military personnel upon the member's death when retired pay stops. Survivors of members who die while on active duty, and survivors of members recalled to active duty from retirement who die while on active duty (see Active Duty SBP Coverage) may also be protected by the SBP. The goal of this website is to provide important, accurate information about the SBP to future military retirees, current retirees, SBP counselors, and others interested in the SBP. We encourage you to browse through the pages (see Details of the SBP, above). We hope the information will help you better understand the Plan and how vitally important it is to all military personnel and their families.
