ATTENTION:

“The National Defense Authorization Act of 2004 made changes to Survivor Benefit Program elections, eliminating the necessity to process Imminent Death requests.  Therefore, effective 31 December 2003, after-duty hours processing of Imminent Death cases will cease.  We will continue to expeditiously process cases as necessary during normal duty hours.  Questions may be referred to the USAF Physical Disability Operations Division at DSN 665-3519.

Thank you for visiting the Physical Disability Separation and Retirement Program Page. This page was constructed to provide helpful information to our customers on the Air Force Physical Disability System.

Disability laws allow the Secretary of the Air Force to remove from active duty those who can no longer perform their duties because of a physical disability, in order to maintain a fit and vital force, and to fairly compensate members whose military careers are cut short due to a service-connected or service-aggravated physical disability. Chapter 61 of Title 10 U.S.C. is the mechanism and it applies to all grades, both active and reserve.

The USAF Physical Disability Division (HQ AFPC/DPPD) is comprised of three branches.  The Informal Physical Evaluation Board (DPPDI), the Formal Physical Evaluation Board (DPPDF), and the Disability Operations Branch (DPPDS).  The Informal and Formal PEBs are charged with determining fitness for duty and if unfit, the disability rating.  The Disability Operations Branch provides full administrative support for the processing of disability cases.
