Every
officer should have a current T-ODP on file so functional Development Teams
can provide senior career field guidance and vectors. Without knowing the
officer's goals and desires, and T-OPD reviewer's honest assessments,
developing the force is a much harder task.
The T-ODP
should also be updated before any significant DT meeting, such as a DO or
Sq/CC leadership board, developmental education panel, or promotion board.
Our
Developmental Team (DT) process continues with both the 21A/M & 21R DTs
scheduled to meet again in Apr. The Acqusition Logisitcs Experience Exchange
Tour (ALEET) board met last month and selectees have been notified.
Notification is pending no later than February for 21A/R officers who applied
for the Air Force Institute of Technology Master's degree program. 21R
officers who applied for the Advanced Logisitcs Readiness Officer Course board
will be announced shortly as the message is currently being coordinated at Air
Staff.
AFPC Assignment Team members are helping spread the word about the Air Force’s new Force Development initiative, and the evolution of the Air Force Assignment System. The briefings, which for now focus on officer aspects of Force Development, are sponsored by each MAJCOM and take place through the 15th of December. Your MAJCOM is scheduling briefings at many locations; information on time and location of Force Development briefings is being distributed through command and other channels. Under the Force Development construct, your Assignment Team continues to be directly involved in working with you on assignment-related issues. Organized along career field lines, Development Teams (DTs), will meet periodically with the support of the Assignment Teams to provide even more senior and focused attention to officer development issues. For more detailed information, see AFSLMO’s Force Development website. The current Career Path Pyramids are under revision and will be replaced by a new Career Planning Diagram. Each AFSC will have a specific career planning diagram that shows representative duties at the tactical, operational, and strategic levels of development within that AFSC. Each career field’s diagram will be posted when completed, and will be accessed from this website and from each DPA division page. It’s important to understand that the current “pyramid” remains valid—the CPD will enhance and improve the presentation of career field planning data so that commanders and airmen can more easily understand the career field’s dynamics. The familiar Preference Worksheet has been replaced by an interim Force Development tool--the Transitional Officer Development Plan (ODP). The ODP builds upon AFAS to incorporate more deliberate planning and more complete communication between officers, their command chain, and the assignment/development teams. Key points on the T-ODP:
