Instructions for Private Side Access Using CAC Identification Certificate

Update:  NRWS has implemented the use of DoD Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) authentication for Private Side Login as mandated by DoD Policy.

Waiver:  Users can still Login with UserId & PWD. A waiver is in place that supports NRWS authentication by presenting a valid client certificate (DoD PKI or IECA) or a UserId & PWD.

Advantages:  Initial Login using the CAC Id Certificate will associate your UserId & PWD to the CAC Id Cerficate. This will support access using the CAC without having to enter a UserId & PWD. Give it a try! This actually makes the login process easier. Enhancements will be made in the coming months so that other web applications (i.e. NROWS) will use the same process. This will provide Single Signon to several Reserve Web Applications.

Instructions for Initial Login:

Insert CAC in the card reader
Open your web browser
Go to http://reserves.navy.mil
Click on the Login link in the upper right corner

User will then be asked to select a certificate. User must select the CAC Id Certificate in order to accepted for access to the Private Side. Select "View Certificate" to verify that the correct certificate has been selected.

User will be asked to enter CAC PIN

User then enters Username and Password and selects BIND CAC

At this point the user is directed to the Private Side of the NRWS. Future Logins using the CAC will not require entering of Usernane and Password, only the CAC PIN.
