TULSA, Okla. (NNS) -- Cmdr. Charles Musgrove retired from the Naval Reserve in a ceremony held Sept. 18 at the Navy and Marine Corps Reserve Center in Tulsa, Okla.

The day closed a 35-year career path, which journeyed from lithographer’s mate to supply officer.

During the ceremony, Musgrove thanked his wife of 37 years, Pat, who, he said, stood by him and had to make the tough decisions while he was away, especially during his seven-month deployment to the Western Pacific in 1974.

“Over the past 35-plus years of drilling, annual training, and active-duty recalls, I have gotten to be in literally dozens of states, many different nations, and traveled throughout the world,” said Musgrove. “The old adage ‘join the Navy, see the world’ works equally well for the Naval Reserve.”

In addition to his time in the Navy Reserve, Musgrove served active duty during two wars.

“I volunteered for Vietnam, but I was not sent," he added. "I felt as if I had somehow been able to make up for not going there in 1967 by going to Saudi Arabia in 1990,” said Musgrove, who served during Operation Desert Storm. At Navy and Marine Corps Reserve Center Tulsa, he served as the head of the logistics department for Pacific Command Det. 111.

As the featured speaker at the retirement ceremony, Rear Adm. Bob Stack congratulated Musgrove.

“I salute you for your service and all of your accomplishments from seaman recruit to commander,” said Stack.
