Preparedness Guides - OPM
The Office of Personnel Management
has just released “The Federal Employee’s Family Preparedness Guide,” the
third
of three emergency guides produced to educate Federal employees on
general steps they can take to protect themselves and their families
from a potential biological, chemical, or radiological attack. The guide
offers advice on a wide variety of topics, including how much prescription
medication to keep on hand if you have a medical condition; creating an
emergency kit for your pet; the best way to purify water; and creating
an evacuation plan. It also gives specific recommendations on what
to do in case of a chemical, biological, or nuclear attack. There are actually
two versions of the family guide – one for the Washington, D.C. metro area,
and one for a national audience. The Washington, D.C. area guide includes
a map highlighting the 14 primary evacuation routes out of the city.
