Photo Galleries of Glacier Effects of the M7.9 Denali Fault Earthquake on November 3, 2002
The photos posted here are designed to be a visual record on November 7, 2002 of the area
of the M7.9 Denali Fault earthquake of November 3, 2002 in the central and eastern Alaska
Range. While many of the photos show spectacular effects of the earthquake, others show no
effects. This may be because there were no effects, the photo was taken too high or too far
away, or the lighting was too poor. The photos that show no effects are posted because they
may be of equal interest to some investigations. Much of the area was in deep shadows due to
low sun angles at this time of year in Alaska making it difficult to photograph. Advanced
digital enhancement can often bring out extraordinary features in some of these photos that
otherwise show very little. A few of the photos here have been so enhanced, but not all.
Probably the fewest and least dramatic effects are visible in the Yanert Glacier area and the
earthquake epicenter and West Fork Glacier areas. If time is limited, it is suggested that the
viewer of these pages start in the Susitna Glacier area or farther east. Images here are
reduced resolution.
Technical note: Norton Internet Security (NIS) Add Blocking has been found to block some
