Introduction to the
Public Affairs Career Program
The Public Affairs Career Program is chartered by the Air Force Public
Affairs Policy Council to identify, develop, employ and retain men and women with the
public affairs skills necessary to satisfy current and future Air Force requirements. The
chair of the Policy Council is BGen Fred Roggero, SAF/PA.
The Public Affairs Career Program Manager works closely with the Policy Council
and interacts with the public affairs work force to meet career management objectives. The
Manager typically serves a term of 3-4 years then moves to a position within the
public affairs career field. The Public Affairs Career Program is one of 20 such programs
located at the Air Force Personnel Center.
In general, Air Force employees in the GS-1035 and 1082 occupational
series at grades GS-7 and above may be eligible to apply for approximately 300 public
affairs positions in grades GS-9 and above. The program primarily supports
the development of mid- and senior-level managers of public affairs programs
Air Force-wide.
College graduates with an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.45 who have pursued studies
related to public affairs (journalism, mass communications, marketing, public relations)
may apply for public affairs internships through the PALACE ACQUIRE (PAQ)
program.
