NIDDK is located in several buildings on and off the main NIH campus in Bethesda, MD, near Washington, DC. The Office of the Director is in NIH Building 31 (for directions to the NIH and a map of the campus, see NIH Visitor Information). The laboratories and clinics are also found on the main campus, in Buildings 5, 6, 8, and 10 (see NIH Map). In addition to the research done in Bethesda, MD, NIDDK maintains a Diabetes Epidemiology and Clinical Research Branch in Phoenix, AZ. The staff that deal with research funding are found a few miles north of the NIH campus; grants staff are in Two Democracy Plaza (6707 Democracy Boulevard), and the contracts staff are in Rockledge One (6705 Rockledge Drive).

Please note Visitor Parking is located outside to the right of the buildings. To reach Visitor Parking, turn right after entering from Democracy Boulevard and follow the signs directing you to make three more left turns into the visitor lot (area map, detailed map).
Via Metrorail
Metrorail (subway) service is available from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and from Union Station (railway). The closest station to Two Democracy Plaza is the Grosvenor-Strathmore station on the Red Line (going toward Shady Grove). Grosvenor-Strathmore is one stop north of the NIH (which is the Medical Center station). From the Grosvenor station, it is necessary to take a cab. Hint for the cab driver: We are located at 6707 Democracy Boulevard, which is next to Montgomery Mall, immediately adjacent to Bethesda Marriott Suites Hotel.
From Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) 40 minutes, 36 miles
Take the Baltimore-Washington Parkway south toward Washington, DC. At I-495 (Capital Beltway), head west toward Silver Spring/Bethesda. From the Beltway (I-495), take Exit 36, Old Georgetown Road (Rt. 187). Bear right toward Rockville, going northwest for about 0.6 miles. Turn left on Democracy Boulevard for about 0.7 miles. The entrance to Democracy Plaza is the first right turn after Fernwood Road.
From Dulles International Airport 25 minutes, 22 miles
Head east on the Dulles Airport Access Road for about 13 miles. Exit onto I-495 (Capital Beltway), heading north to Maryland. From the Beltway (I-495), take Exit 38 (I-270 north toward Rockville/Frederick). Take the Democracy Boulevard East exit. After about 0.2 miles on Democracy Boulevard, turn left onto Fernwood Road. Turn left after less than 100 feet back onto Democracy Boulevard and take the first right into Democracy Plaza.

Head north on the George Washington Parkway for approximately 5 miles. Exit onto I-495 (Capital Beltway), heading north to Maryland. From the Beltway (I-495), take Exit 38 (I-270) north toward Rockville/Frederick. Take the Democracy Boulevard East exit. After about 0.2 miles on Democracy Boulevard, turn left onto Fernwood Road.
