Health Tip: Walking Machines

(HealthDayNews) -- Take care of your feet -- they'll need to do an awful lot of traveling over your lifetime.

The average person takes 8,000 to 10,000 steps a day, covering about 115,000 miles over the typical life span. That's more than four times the circumference of the globe, the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) says.

The foot, while it may look like a simple arrangement of skin and bones, is an intricate structure containing 26 bones, 33 joints, 107 ligaments, and 19 muscles and tendons, the APMA says.
