For copies of the records of Sailors discharged, deceased, or retired between 1885 and 1994, contact:

You will need the full name, Social Security Number and/or Service Number (both, if available), enlistment and discharge dates, date and place of birth, rank/rate upon discharge or release of the Navy member, and an address to where the copy is to be mailed and a signature of the member or bona fide next of kin. For officers who served from 1890 to 1967, the 4 or 6-digit serial number is required. Please see the information available at the web site of the National Personnel Records Center.
