Marine Trackline Geophysics

NGDC's GEODAS Marine Trackline Geophysics database contains bathymetric (including multibeam), magnetic, gravity & seismic navigation data collected during marine cruises from 1953 to the present. Coverage is worldwide. Data sources include both US & foreign oceanographic institutions & government agencies.

This database, including all of NGDC's digital holdings, is distributed on CD-ROM with the GEODAS search & retrieval software for Windows 95/98/NT & UNIX XWindows. Searches by geographic area, year of cruise, institution, platform, cruise, date or parameter are available. More information & updates are available via FTP.

Data files are based on the original cruises and contain a Documentation Header record & a series of Data records. Header records document the content & structure of the Data records, & contain data that remain constant during the survey. Data records contain geophysical data (bathymetry, magnetics, gravity) & seismic shot-point ids) with time & position. Multibeam bathymetric data are in the original formats received at NGDC.

NGDC also archives analog geophysical data including seismic reflection & refraction, side-scan sonar, & other data types. Analog underway geophysical data are inventoried & searchable through the GEODAS System for Marine Trackline Data.

NGDC is pleased to accept contributions of underway geophysical data on almost any media, preferably in the MGD77 format. Any data received are in the international public domain, readily available globally to any interested individual or group.
