The Navy is changing the way it does business ashore, as it acts on a mandate to trim excess and find efficiencies in the way the shore establishment provides its services to the Fleet.
This vision for the Navy shore support mission is part of the Chief of Naval Operations’ plan to find savings throughout the Navy that can be used to recapitalize the Fleet. For installations within the Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Japan region, this means changes in services, both visible and behind the scenes, and possible changes in the workforce, all with the goal of providing the most effective and efficient organization in support of the Navy’s mission.

Commander U.S. Naval Forces Japan (CNFJ) recently signed innovative rental partnership agreements with two Japanese developers which will dramatically improve the quality of off-base housing for Sailors and their families, as well as the process through which it is obtained.
