HIV-STD Advisory Panel Seeks Public Comment on CARE Act Reauthorization

An advisory committee workgroup convened jointly by the Health Resources and Services Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will host three public meetings seeking comment about future directions for federally funded HIV/AIDS care and treatment programs.

The CDC/HRSA Advisory Committee on HIV and STD Prevention and Treatment’s Ryan White Comprehensive AIDS Resources Emergency (CARE) Act Reauthorization Workgroup will hold the meetings in Washington, D.C., Miami, and Los Angeles to gain input for the upcoming third reauthorization by Congress of the CARE Act.

The three meetings are scheduled for Sept. 12 in Washington, D.C., at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel; Sept. 25 in Miami at the Airport Marriott, and Oct. 3 in Los Angeles at the Hyatt Regency.  Each session will begin at 9:30 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m.

The workgroup is particularly interested in obtaining comments that address these and other key questions:

  • What in the CARE Act works for you and what does not?
  • Does the CARE Act provide adequate resources to respond to your needs or those of your community?
  • What are the most significant HIV service gaps in your community?   How can the CARE Act help fill them?
  • What are the most significant barriers to accessing services?  How can the CARE Act help overcome them?
  • What is the single most important thing you would change in the CARE Act and why?
For more information on the meetings and for specifics on submitting written comments and providing oral testimony, please see the Federal Register Notice published Aug. 21 and available on-line at http://www.access.gpo.gov/su_docs/fedreg/a030821c.html#Health%20Resources%20and%20Services%20Administration; visit HRSA’s HIV/AIDS Bureau web site at http://hab.hrsa.gov; or call HRSA’s HIV/AIDS Bureau at 301-443-5400.
