APPLYING FOR A DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY CIVILIAN CAREER IS EASY ...
Department of the Navy has seven Human Resources Service Centers located worldwide. Each HRSC recruits individuals through job opportunity announcements to fill Navy and Marine Corps civilian vacancies occurring in its serviced area.
STEP 1: CONDUCT A JOB SEARCH
The first step in applying for a job is to perform a search of the job opportunity announcements listed under Jobs, Jobs, Jobs, Search for Jobs. You can search for jobs by position title or series; city, state or country; or salary.
For most of the job opportunity announcements, you must meet one of the Common Hiring Categories to apply. You will be asked three eligibility questions before you perform your search, to help guide you to those announcements for which you are eligible to apply. In addition, you will want to review the Who May Apply section of the announcement to make certain that you meet the eligibility requirements listed.
No time to search yourself? No problem! Set up job search agents using My Searches that will automatically search each job opportunity announcement and e-mail you when new announcements are posted that match your individual search criteria.
For more information check out the Search for Jobs FAQs.
STEP 2: CREATE YOUR RESUME
To be considered for a position, you must apply to a specific job opportunity announcement using a resume and an Additional Data Sheet (ADS). We are unable to accept unsolicited applications at this time.
You can create a resume and ADS on-line using My Resume, our new and improved on-line resume builder. Block-by-block, My Resume will prompt you to enter all the necessary information you need. There are even helpful hints on creating a resume in the How to Prepare a Resume information as well as a Sample Resume to review.
Although on-line submission of your resume using My Resume is the preferred method, you may submit a Hardcopy Resume. However before submitting your Hardcopy Resume, please take the time to read the Top 10 Reasons to use My Resume.
For more information check out the How Do I Apply FAQs.
STEP 3: SUBMIT YOUR RESUME
Ready to submit your resume and ADS to a job opportunity announcement? Then simply use the Apply Now button located at the bottom of each announcement. Your resume will be submitted immediately and directly to the Center that posted the announcement and a copy of what you submitted will be sent to your e-mail account and My Notices.
Already have a resume and ADS on file at a Human Resources Service Center? Then Re-Use your Resume to apply to other job opportunity announcements issued by that Center. Our Apply Now process will take you through this process.
If you would like additional information on how to apply, check out the How Do I Apply FAQs.
STEP 4: TRACK YOUR PROGRESS
If you currently work for the federal government, are a veteran or meet one of the other Common Hiring Categories, and you applied to an announcement that included these hiring categories, then you can track the progress of your resume on-line.
With My Status, you can check the status of your resume to see if you are being actively considered for a position and extend your resume. Forgotten which jobs and which Human Resources Service Center you've applied to? With My Job Interests, you can view where you have submitted a resume, when that resume was received, and which jobs you have applied to.
Still have more questions? Then check out the I've Applied, Now What FAQs.
Good luck and thank you for your interest in the Department of the Navy civilian employment!
