TRAINING: CONTINUOUS LEARNING
This section contains Continuous Learning (CL) requirements for Department of Navy acquisition workforce members.
Department of Defense (DoD) Continuous Learning (CL) Policy
On September 13, 2002, the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics (AT&L) issued a new CL policy for the acquisition workforce.
THE POLICY
- Civilian and military personnel in designated acquisition positions are required to earn Continuous Learning Points (CLPs).
- Each member must earn a minimum of 80 CLPs every two years, with a goal of earning 40 points each year.
Department of the Navy (DON) Guidance
The DON CL program helps all acquisition workforce members add to their professional knowledge and performance by staying current and proficient in their functional disciplines and AT&L initiative areas. The program can also help members improve their leadership and management skills.
The Director, Acquisition Career Management (DACM), who administers this program for the DON, issued guidance on November 4, 2002 that includes requirements and definitions for the program and guidelines for awarding points. CLPs can be earned in a variety of ways, including: academic endeavors, training courses, conferences, on-line training, rotational assignments and professional events.
"Register-Now!" for Continuous Learning
Register-Now! for Continuous Learning is the DON's web-based system for CL registration and tracking. By accessing the site, you can submit requests to register for DACM-sponsored CL Events which are updated annually. You can keep track of the points you earn. In addition, CL training events described in Register-Now are tuition free and available to all DON employees. However, acquisition workforce members are given priority status for registration. You can review all of the CL features of Register-Now by visiting the web site at: www.register-now.cms.navy.mil and then clicking on the CL link.
