DTIC provides valuable online technical information support to small high-technology firms, as potential R&D; contractors and SBIR/STTR participants, to enhance their research and development, technology transfer, networking and marketing efforts.

Objectives

1. Enhance the performance of small firms as federal contractors and potential contractors by providing maximum access to defense-related technical information.

2. Facilitate commercialization of federally-funded research and development.

Basic DTIC SBIR/STTR services described below are free. Optional services can be charged to a major credit card or deposit account. Call for details.

STINET • Direct online access to the comprehensive Defense technical database. Do keyword searches for documents in the extensive DTIC holdings.

Private STINET • Upgrade your access to DoD technical information plus commercial and other databases. This is a free one year renewable registration.

SITIS • Small business questions with answers from topic managers. • New topic information. • Topic reference ordering specifics.

TRAIL is a free biweekly listing by e-mail of new reports in DTIC matching your personal interests. You will receive your first bibliography immediately following your online sign-up for TRAIL. No DTIC registration is required and you can subscribe, unsubscribe, or upgrade your service at any time.

DTIC Technical reports identified in STINET or by some other means can be ordered using the SBIR Support Request. Requests for documents may also be phoned (800) 363-7247 or (703) 767-8269, faxed (703-767-8032), or sent by email (sbir@dtic.mil).

The Department of Defense (DoD) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) solicitations foster participation by small firms in high-tech research and development to address Department needs. Firms with 500 or fewer employees, owned and operated for profit in the United States are eligible to participate. A system of competitive awards enables small businesses to develop innovative solutions to a wide variety of DoD requirements. Except for the reservation of limited rights by the government, rights to products and processes resulting from SBIR and STTR remain with the small company. Comprehensive SBIR/STTR Program information, including mailing list notification for the SBIR and STTR solicitations, is available from the DoD SBIR STTR web site.

DoD SBIR solicitations are issued twice per year. Topics from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, Defense Threat Reduction Agency, Missile Defense Agency, and Special Operations Command appear in at least one of the two releases. The annual DoD STTR solicitation typically contains topics from the Army, Navy, Air Force, DARPA and MDA.
