Commanders and defense leaders are growing increasingly aware
of how necessary it is to deal effectively with the media and
to communicate clearly, accurately, honestly with internal and
external audiences. One sign of this growing awareness is the
care with which CINCs and senior commanders select their public
affairs officers.
Along with this awareness is the acknowledgment the Department
needs trained communications experts to deal with the technical
media environment that exists today.
That is the mission of the Defense
Information School -- to grow, maintain and sustain a professional
corps of officers, NCOs and enlisted men and women who are trained
to fulfill the communications needs of our leaders in a military
environment and under the most demanding military situations.
