The service is computer based and accessed by telephone
or visit the web. Employment and salary
information is provided to the secure database every two weeks to ensure that up-to-date
data is available to verifiers. If an verifier needs only your employment information you
simply provide your SSN and DLA agency code (10365)
representing the Defense Logistics Agency. Employees seeking a loan or other credit for
which the lender requires current and prior earnings information call 'The Work Number for
Everyone' to get an authorization code or go to the web at
www.theworknumber.com. The employee provides this code to the lender.
Lenders call the service, enter the designated Agency code, the employee's Social Security
Number and the authorization code provided by the employee, and get the necessary
information over the phone or via fax. |

WHAT DATA IS PROVIDED? |
![A drawing of a lightbulb shining](/peth04/20041016031518im_/http://www.hr.dla.mil/hr/images/Litebulb.jpg) |
Three levels of data are available. The Basic, Basic Plus and Full verification
options required an authorization code that you must provide to the lender.
BASIC:
The first verifies that you are an employee of DLA, spells your name,
and provides your most recent start date, and how long you have been employed. It will
also spell your job title if desired.
BASIC PLUS: In addition to above, provides current
salary information
FULL: This option also provides your salary history for the prior two
years if available. DLA employees will not have 1997 salary information as the agency
converted to the providing payroll system in 1998. |

The Work Number system allows the randomly generated authorization codes to be
used only once, and only a limited number of authorization codes for each employee can be
in use at any one time. Since the information is automated, information about employees is
obtained discreetly, is consistent, and is not subject to typing or interpretation errors.

![A drawing of a lightbulb shining](/peth04/20041016031518im_/http://www.hr.dla.mil/hr/images/Litebulb.jpg) |
Yes. Any lender can
access the service by calling 1-800-367-5690 or go to the web at
www.theworknumber.com. Obtaining a verification takes about
two minutes - and lenders are charged a nominal fee for the service based on the length of
the call. Lenders may opt to apply for a free membership allowing them to call a
1-800 number and be billed a flat fee per verification. Over 650 lenders, including some
of the countries largest, have already enrolled. Lenders can become members by calling
1-800-9-WORK-NO. |
