3/12/2003 - U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy G. Thompson receives the American Society of Transplantation (AST) 2003 Congressional Transplantation Public Policy Award from AST President William Harmon, MD at the group's Washington, DC, reception. The award honors the Secretary for "efforts and contributions to the field of transplantation over the past few years." AST comprises 1,600 transplant physicians and scientists within the specialties of nephrology, gastroenterology, immunology, cardiology, pulmonology, surgery and pediatrics.
