Center for Financial Research
The FDIC established the Center for Financial Research (CFR) to encourage and support innovative research on topics that are important to the FDIC's role as deposit insurer and bank supervisor. The CFR carries out its mission through a variety of activities, including sponsored research, forums, seminars, conferences and workshops that encourage a dialogue incorporating industry, academic, and public-sector perspectives. The CFR research programs explore developments affecting the banking industry, risk measurement and management methods, regulatory policy, and related topics of interest to the FDIC and the larger financial community. The CFR solicits research proposals through an annual call for research proposals and, under the leadership of a program coordinator, selects proposals in each research area. Completed papers are distributed as CFR Working Papers. The Center organizes weekly research seminars, hosts short-term visiting scholars, and manages a Visiting Fellows Program that sponsors long-term academic visitors at the FDIC.
