INTERAGENCY EDISON SYSTEM FOR REPORTING PATENTS

AFOSR is a member of the Interagency Edison System. This means that you may report inventions and patents derived from grants or contracts awarded by the AFOSR, using the Edison System. OSR entered into the agreement to use the Interagency Edison System to improve the reporting of inventions and patents developed from federal grants and/or contracts. The Edison web site is located at http://www.iedison.gov and contains detailed information regarding policies and regulations applicable to the Bayh-Dole Act. As a way of streamlining the work process, we offer to you this voluntary means of electronically submitting your reports.

Use of Edison streamlines the process of reporting inventions and patents to the Government by reducing the amount of paper required, and by automating notifications of missing documents. In addition, electronic storage of invention, patent, and utilization data will enable AFOSR to better manage its current responsibilities and provide faster responses into intellectual property matters.

If you have any questions about the use or capabilities of this system as it relates to AFOSR, please to contact TSgt Raymond Marlow at raymond.marlow@afosr.af.mil or (703) 696-9500. If you have any technical or operational questions about the use of Edison itself, please contact Mr. John Salzman, Edison Administrator, assigned to the National Institution of Health (NIH) at js99a@od.nih.gov or (301) 435-0642.
Here's a history of Edison. It also includes the necessary steps for setting up an Edison account. By using Edison grantees are able to carry out many of the functions required for reporting inventions. Included below are some of the functions provided using Edison:

    • Electronic means of reporting inventions
    • Invention disclosure
    • Election of title
    • Patent reporting
    • Providing a confirmatory license to the U.S. Government
    • Proof of Inclusion of Government support clause

Take a look at our Interagency Edison PowerPoint presentation.
We plan future additions to this site in the areas of intellectual property, contract and grant law, and ethics.
