Overview:
The Nutritional Science Research Group in the Division of Cancer Prevention at the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health and the Department of Nutrition at the Clinical Center, National Institutes of Health are offering a one week educational opportunity in "Nutrition and Cancer Prevention" for post -baccalaureate nutrition students, dietetic interns, dietitians, and graduate students. This one week session provides specialized instruction in the role of diet and bioactive food components as modifiers of cancer incidence and tumor behavior. The practicum will cover the following areas:
- Cancer Trends
- Bioactive Food Components
- Obesity and Energy Balance in Relation to Cancer
- New Technologies in Cancer Research
- Bioethics
- Palliative Care
- Health Claims and Messages
- Clinical Intervention Studies
- "Research Day" at the NIH including hands-on workshops and tour of the new NIH Clinical Research Center.
Participants will be required to complete a database search on a research topic, summarize findings and present information at the end of the practicum. Complete instruction will be provided to participants.
Some preparation may be required prior to practicum.

The faculty consists of experts from the National Institutes of Health, and from academic institutions.
