  • Managing a Multijurisdictional Case: Identifying the Lessons Learned from the Sniper Investigation, an Office of Justice Program, BJA-supported publication, has been released by the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF). The report details a number of "lessons learned" and recommendations on how other police agencies can prepare for high-profile crimes that involve multiple jurisdictions. The report is based on the experiences detailed by more than 100 individuals closest to the DC sniper case, as well as focus groups and extensive information collection efforts.

  • Office of Justice Programs Resource Guide provides a summary view of the grant programs and acitivties of OJP from FY 2004.

  • HELP for Victim Service Providers Today, the U.S. Department of Justice launched a new web forum: HELP for Victim Service Providers. Created by the Department of Justice's Office of Justice Program (OJP), Office for Victim of Crime (OVC), the forum is an online message board where more than 6,000 victim service provider organizations can exchange expert information about best practices and recommend innovative service strategies to help victims of crime. Through this forum, victim service providers and allied professionals now have 24-hour access to their colleagues from across the United States. The forum can be accessed online at http://ovc.ncjrs.org/ovcproviderforum.

  • The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) is one of five recipients of the prestigious Innovations in American Government Award from the Ash Institute for Democratic Governance and Innovation at Harvard University and the Council for Excellence in Government. OJJDP, which is part of the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Justice Programs, received the award for a project it supports called the Performance-based Standards (PbS) for Youth Correction and Detention Facililities. The project collects information from juvenile facilities and tracks injuries, suicidal behaviors, assaults, time in isolation, and youth academic performance to make needed improvements and is directed by the Council of Juvenile Correctional Administrators.   • 2003-2004 Medal of Valor Nomination Period Now Closed

  • FY 2003 Office of Justice Programs & Office of Community Oriented Policing Services Grants by State - In Fiscal Year 2003, the Department of Justice (DOJ) awarded more than $6.99 billion to states and localities to assist with criminal justice activities. The Justice Department's third annual report details all funding the Department's Office of Justice Programs (OJP) and Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Office have awarded to each state and territory.

  • Juvenile Justice Project Selected as Innovations In American Government Award Finalist

  • Web-Based SF 269: Effective April 1, 2004, grantees may file their SF 269 Financial Status Reports on-line through the Web-Based SF 269 option available at http://grants.ojp.usdoj.gov.

    Attached are questions and answers concerning the new feature. Updates will be posted periodically. Program Offices and their grantees should direct any questions concerning this new option to the Office of the Comptroller, Customer Service Center, by phone at 1-800-458-0786 (press 2) or by email at ask.oc@usdoj.gov.

  • Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor Awarded by President Bush on March 22, 2004. Award recipients are: James Ahern and John Ahern, Boston, MA; Kevin Fitzhenry, Bayonne, NJ; Michael Muniz, San Antonio, TX; Barry J. Ralston, Amarillo, TX; and Marcus Young, Ukiah, CA.

    AMBER stands for America's Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response and was created as a legacy to 9-year-old Amber Hagerman, who was kidnaped while riding her bicycle in Arlington, Texas, and then brutally murdered.

  • The Task Force for Faith Based and Community Initiatives' purpose is to promote good works by neighbors, particularly in the areas of juvenile delinquency, prisoners and their families, victims of crime, domestic violence, and drug addition/treatment/prevention. It is doing so by identifying and eliminating barriers to the participation of faith-based and community-based organizations in grants funded by the Department of Justice.

  • Medal of Valor Program is the highest award for valor by a public safety officer. Awarded annually, it acknowledges acts of valor that are above and beyond the call of duty and exhibit courage, decisivesness and presence of mind regardless of the officer's personal safety.

  • Citizen Corp Logo Citizen Corps , a part of the USA Freedom Corps that was announced by President Bush in his State of the Union Address, is a new initiative to enable citizens to participate directly in homeland security efforts in their own communities. The Department of Justice's Office of Justice Programs (OJP) is participating by expanding the Neighborhood Watch Program, by providing resources and training for state and local Volunteers in Police Service Programs.
