When requesting an estimate,
please provide the following specifications:
|
Approximate
number of pages |
Publications are printed on commercial 40”
size presses in increments of 16 pages. A press sheet
is divided to produce with 4, 8, or 16 page units
called signatures. Therefore, the number of pages
in the text section of a publication must be divided
by four. We generally refer to covers separately,
for example: “24 pps plus cover”. |
Trim
size in inches |
RPC EAP Manila stocks a variety of paper types and
sizes. All publications will be sized to fit on the
paper with a minimum of waste. Printed products you
may have seen are examples of the standard paper and
trim sizes we use. Remember for web publications work,
the standard sizes are 8-1/4 x 10-3/4 inches or 5-1/4
x 8-1/4 inches. RPC can handle both U.S. and metric
sizes; however, we generally use paper from American
mills, so waste can be a consideration with metric
sizes. |
Type
of paper desired (coated or uncoated) |
You may specify your paper based on U.S. standard
stock classifications or European Metric GSM measurements.
If you are unfamiliar with paper types, use other
RPC printed products on hand as references, or request
information on what stocks are available. You may
also supply a sample of some paper you like, and we
can find a close substitute. Special orders can be
accommodated. |
Number
of colors on cover and text |
RPC EAP Manila printing presses can print 1 - 5
colors in a single pass. Extra colors such as Pantone
Matching System colors (PMS) or special varnishes
require an extra pass through the printing press and
can increase your costs dramatically. Consult with
Customer Service if you have special requirements.
|
Type
of binding |
Options include: saddle stitch (like a magazine),
perfect binding (like a telephone book), Wire-O, and
plastic comb. We offer other finishing processes including
laminating, three-hole trimming, die-cutting, embossing
and round cornering. You may request shrink-wrapping
at an additional charge. |
Quantity
needed |
In general, minimum order quantities for custom
work are 3,000 copies for 1-3 color work, and 5,000
copies for four-color process (i.e. color photos and
illustrations). |
Date
needed / Distribution requirements (if known) |
RPC EAP Manila can deliver by various modes; see
our Global
Distribution page for guidance. Shipping is charged
separately, so the cost of your job will vary depending
on shipping mode you select. Be sure to provide an
accurate distribution list, including consignees before
your project is completed. |
How
materials will be submitted |
The initial inquiry should also advise what materials
will be furnished (color transparencies, photos,
CD-ROM, diskette, etc.) and whether design or layout
services are required. Hard copies and original
art should be forwarded to us through our Washington
Office or via courier. Text or word processing documents
can be provided on diskette, or sent
electronically through this website via FTP.
You may also e-mail your text files as an attachment.
We use Macintosh or PC computers with professional
page layout applications like QuarkXPress, Adobe
InDesign or Adobe PageMaker. If you are not familiar
with these programs, we recommend that you allow
us to complete your layout. If you have only word
processor files, or presentation files, we will
have to recreate your art since these types of programs
do not provide adequate quality for printing. We
make extensive use of high-resolution Adobe Acrobat
PDF files and if you are familiar with using them,
your work may also be supplied as PDF. Be sure to
get RPC EAP Manila PDF Distiller Settings before
beginning. PDF files are not easily editable. For
foreign language projects see our Guide
to Submitting Foreign Language Text or contact
us for guidance.
We have very high-resolution drum scanners and
can work with color prints, negatives or transparencies.
We can also accept digital images as long as they
are of high enough resolution. Please do not use
images copied from the Internet; they are for screen
display only and do not print well. Do not send
valuable artwor; instead make a photographic transparency
and check color against the original art for accuracy
before submission. Request color control guides
from RPC EAP Manila to use when photographing original
art. |
