Statistical Yearbook

The Office of Immigration Statistics (OIS), Office of Management, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) publishes the Yearbook of Immigration Statistics each year (formerly entitled Statistical Yearbook of the Immigration and Naturalization Service). This publication provides information, in the form of text, tables, and charts, about the various types of foreign nationals who are inspected, naturalized, apprehended, or removed by the DHS. Types of aliens include immigrants, nonimmigrants (temporary visitors), parolees, refugees, and asylees, as well as those naturalized or apprehended. Topics covered include statistical data overview, discussion of specific statistical programs (e.g., naturalization), and assistance in understanding the data with information on data collection and data limitations.

Annual editions of the Statistical Yearbook may be purchased in hard copy for the years 1965 to 2002 from the National Technical Information Service (NTIS) by calling 1 (800) 553-6847. Quote order number PB97-199673 for the 1996 edition, PB99-127821 for the 1997 edition, PB2000-107710 for the 1998 edition, PB2002-102235 for the 1999 edition, PB2002-108492 for the 2000 edition, PB2003-102017 for the 2001 edition, or PB2003-105831 for the 2002 edition. The 1997-2002 editions of the Statistical Yearbook, offered for sale by the Superintendent of Documents (2002 edition, GPO S/N 027-002-00507-4), may be ordered online by phone or fax, or through the mail. The Yearbook is accessible below in PDF format. For the 1996 edition, the Table of Contents allows easy navigation to each chapter and from there easy access to text, tables, and charts.

For the 1996 edition, each table is linked to an Excel file for ease in data manipulation. To open the Excel file associated with a particular table, double click on that table. To save the Excel file to your PC, select the File option from your browser menu, click on the Save As option, and save the file in the directory of your choice.

For editions since 1996, detailed tables can be accessed in Excel format through each subject-matter section, e.g., click Immigrants to see the list of Immigrant Excel tables in this Yearbook section, then click on the desired table number.
