The FEMA Map Assistance Center (FMAC) serves to inform the public of FEMA's National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) rules and regulations. Map Specialists respond to inquiries from Federal, State, and local officials and the general public. They inform callers of requirements necessary to meet NFIP criteria for Letters of Map Change (LOMC); Physical Map Revisions; Appeals, Protests and Compliance Issues; Preliminary Flood Insurance Studies; Processing Fees; Technical Data Requests; and Letters of Determination Review (LODR). The FMAC is the first point of contact to disseminate this information and to help callers understand the technical issues involved in a particular situation. In addition to taking incoming telephone calls, Map Specialists provide detailed responses to electronic mail inquiries; and review and process Letter of Map Amendment (LOMA), Letter of Map Revision - based on Fill, and LODR requests.

Map Specialists are well-versed in the LOMC process and are able to explain the process to callers who often have little familiarity with such data requirements as official land records or certified elevation data. They also handle map revision inquiries from surveyors, engineers, community officials, lenders, insurance agents, appraisers, and floodplain managers.

The FMAC is also a good place to go to for such publications as the most recent NFIP regulations, the "Guide for Community Officials," and other FEMA pamphlets and brochures that address the LOMC process.
