National Earthquake Information Center (Golden, Colorado, U.S.A.)

The National Earthquake Information Center (NEIC), was established in Rockville, Maryland, in 1966 as part of the National Ocean Survey of the Department of Commerce. The Coast and Geodetic Survey, a forerunner of the National Ocean Survey, had coordinated the collection of seismological data in the United States for many years. The NEIC was transferred to Boulder, Colorado, in 1972 and made part of the U.S. Geological Survey in 1973. The NEIC was moved again in 1974 to its present location in Golden, Colorado.

BFRL goals are to improve the productivity of U.S. construction industries and to reduce the human and economic losses resulting from fires, earthquakes, winds, and other hazards. Laboratory research includes fire science and fire safety engineering; building materials; computer-integrated construction practices; structural, mechanical, and environmental engineering; and building economics. Products of the laboratory's research include measurements and test methods, performance criteria, and technical data that are incorporated into building and fire standards and codes. The laboratory conducts investigations at the scene of major fires and structural failures due to earthquakes, hurricanes, or other causes.

Regional Disaster Documentation Center - Costa Rica

In 1990, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) established the Regional Disaster Documentation Center, in San Jose, Costa Rica, with the objective of offering to Latin American professionals an easy access to technical documents about disasters. The CDD is located in the offices of the Costa Rican National Emergency Commission (CNE), which provides office space and certain general operating costs.
