    Who are We and What Do We Do?

    The OCC is the U.S. government agency that charters, regulates, and supervises national banks to ensure a safe, sound and competitive national banking system that supports the citizens, communities and economy of the U.S. The OCC also supervises federally licensed branches and agencies of foreign banks.     What's Going On in the Financial Services Industry?

    The financial services industry is undergoing dramatic changes. Financial institutions are broadening the range and increasing the sophistication of their products and services. Technological innovation in communications and information processing is transforming the way banks and other financial institutions conduct business. This world of change poses unique challenges for the OCC and creates exciting career opportunities.

    What Do OCC Employees Do?

    The majority of the OCC's employees are bank examiners. Examiners are provided with a variety of work experiences and interact with all levels of bank management. Bank examiners use a risk-based examination approach to assess a bank's condition and identify potential problems.

    As commercial bank powers expand, new specialties within the OCC continue to be created. In addition to generalist positions, specialty areas currently include Asset Management, Bank Information Systems, Capital Markets, Consumer Compliance/CRA, Credit, and Mortgage Banking.

    The OCC also offers other interesting and challenging careers. These include law, economics, community affairs, information technology, administration, and other professional and support fields.
