Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)
The Freedom of Information Act requires that the COPS Office provide its
records to anyone who requests them in writing and providing a reasonable
description of the records requested. Certain records may be exempt from
disclosure under FOIA. To obtain information on how to make a FOIA request, see
the FOIA Fact Sheet or contact the COPS FOIA Officer directly.
A great deal of information about the COPS Office is publicly available and
may be accessed without a FOIA request via the Electronic Reading Room:
Additional current information about COPS and other U.S. Department of
Justice grant programs is available from the DOJ Response Center at
800.421.6770. If you are looking for information about DOJ not related to the
COPS Office or community policing, please refer to the DOJ Reference Guide and
Component Information or the DOJ FOIA
website to direct your request to the appropriate office.
