Q: I try to refresh the image but an older image remains. I have tried everything, even deleting cache. What is wrong?

A: The data may not be updated due to a server outage or satellite outage.


Q: I would like to obtain other satellite images and/or other weather parameters/observations for events days ago or events weeks, months or years ago.

A: Contact the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) at 704-271-4800, or write to them at orders@ncdc.noaa.gov. Visit their home page at http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov.


Q: I try to reload the current image but the old image remains in cache.

A: Try to go back to the top home page, go to "network options" and clear both the memory cache and the disk cache from your browser.


Q: What is Z, GMT, or UTC time mean.

These all mean the same. "Z" is "ZULU" time, GMT is Greenwich Mean Time, and UTC is Coordinated Universal Time.


Q: I would like satellite data to determine ocean sea surface temperature.

A: I suggest you check out the Satellite Active Archive at http://www.saa.noaa.gov. You can order polar orbiting satellite sectors based on your own coordinates and receive up to 10MB per order free via online transfer. The data are current and may be more useful than GOES data for sea surface temperature analysis.


Q: How do hurricanes form? How are hurricanes classified? How are they named? When do they retire the names? Which hurricane in 1995 hit the US ?
