DeLay:
Boeing Purchase to Benefit
Houston Area,
NASA
Boeing NASA Systems
Purchases Pasadena Headquarters
WASHINGTON
–Congressman Tom DeLay (R-Texas) today said Boeing’s announcement that they
have purchased their NASA Systems headquarters in Pasadena is good news for
the local economy, for space development, and for the future of Boeing.
“Boeing's purchase of this
property means they are making a bigger investment in the community, and the
community will, in turn, invest in Boeing," DeLay said. “We welcome Boeing
as a more permanent neighbor and look forward to seeing the kind of growth
that can develop from this venture.”
DeLay has worked closely
with Boeing on NASA issues, in particular the development of the
International Space Station. Boeing NASA Systems is the leading supplier of
reusable space systems and services, including the space shuttle and the
space station.
“Boeing's decision to
locate in this area also demonstrates the importance of the Johnson Space
Center as the focal point of the space community and their commitment to
NASA’s goals of returning the shuttle to flight, completing the
International Space Station, and returning to the moon,” DeLay said.
The building, located at
3700 Bay Area Blvd. in Pasadena, has been occupied by Boeing since 2001.
Over 1,500 of the nearly 2,700 local employees currently work in the
headquarters, and with this purchase, that number could expand. Boeing made
the announcement of the purchase of their NASA Systems headquarters building
from Trizec Properties Inc. in a written statement released today.
