WASHINGTON – House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas) today endorsed a proposal to allow taxpayers to choose whether they want to deduct state sales taxes or state income taxes on their federal income tax returns.  Currently, state income taxes are deductible on federal returns, but nine states do not have state income taxes, creating an inequity in the federal tax code.
