Intern Program After OIS, Student Program participants may request internships at one of the Navy's Legal Service offices, Trial Service offices. Interns perform the usual duties of law clerks and earn the same salary and allowances as ensigns on active duty. In addition to salary, interns receive a per diem allowance for food and lodging if performing legal work away from home. Availability and duration of assignments are subject to annual funding determinations. Naval Justice School The unique training program at the Naval justice School is often cited by leading judges and law professors as the model civilians should follow to obtain needed trial advocacy skills. Initial Assignments Opportunities for overseas assignments sometimes exist in Hawaii, Guam, Europe and Japan. Every effort will be made to assign you to the geographical area of your choice, but no guarantees can be made. During your first assignment, you'll probably work in the major areas of legal specialty in the Navy: criminal justice litigation, legal assistance to naval personnel and their dependents, administrative law and claims. |
